Breckenridge - Edwin H. “Ed” Rogers, 88, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his residence. Funeral service with Jim Cox officiating will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Elliott Street Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.
Ed was born February 25, 1925 in Harpersville, Texas to Willie Rogers and Ruby Wright Rogers. He married Dorlene Curry on August 10, 1946 in Breckenridge. He had been a Machine Shop Teacher at Breckenridge High School for 33 years, he was an Elder and Deacon of the Elliott Street Church of Christ, and a United States Army Veteran of WWII. Mr. Rogers was Breckenridge Citizen of the Year and Texas Outstanding Vocational Teacher of the Year.
Survivors include his wife, Dorlene Rogers of Breckenridge; daughter, Rena Goldsmith and husband, Ted of Breckenridge; son, Mike Rogers and wife, Donna of Brady; brother, Arol Rogers and wife, Sue of Sherman; grandchildren, Tonya Clifton and husband, Troy of Round Rock, Scott Goldsmith and wife, Janie of Dallas, and Amanda Pennington and husband, Anthony of Round Rock; great-grandchildren, Krista Goldsmith, Tyler Clifton, Logan Clifton, and Luke Pennington. Memorials may be made to the World Bible School and they can be left at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their thanks to the doctors, nurses, technicians, and sitters at John Peter Smith Hospital and the nurses of Solaris Hospice for the care they provided to Ed.
