A Few Seats Still Available for BLOSSOM!
All Texas State Technical College West Texas locations (Abilene, Breckenridge, Brownwood and Sweetwater) will be planting the seeds of science, technology, engineering and math with its BLOSSOM: STEM in Bloom! program. BLOSSOM will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23 in Sweetwater and Abilene and from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 in Breckenridge and Brownwood. BLOSSOM is for girls ages 13 and older.
Throughout the day, TSTC will be showing how STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) are incorporated and influence society's everyday life and what careers are available to the next generation in those areas of expertise.
Several educational and hands-on activities have been planned for the day.
BLOSSOM's featured speaker will be Blackhawk pilot Elizabeth McCormick, who was featured on 20/20 and MSNBC.
During her session, McCormick will share her inspirational true story of overcoming obstacles as she became a Black Hawk helicopter pilot for the United States Army. McCormick is a 2011 Congressional Veteran Commendation recipient and has flown in air assault/rappelling, VIP, command and control and military intelligence-gathering missions.
In 1999, she supported the United Nations peacekeeping operations in Kosovo. McCormick retired from the military in 2001 after suffering a career-ending injury, and is currently an advocate for disabled veterans and an inspirational speaker.
In addition, McCormick is a number one best-selling author, with her fifth book, entitled “The P.I.L.O.T Method”, due out in September.
Admission to BLOSSOM is free and each attendee will receive lunch and a T-shirt free of cost. To register for BLOSSOM, visit www.tstc.edu/westtexasevents/blossom.
