Following a Mustang touchdown that saw the Buckaroos trailing 24-13 with 8:56 remaining in the third quarter, the Buckaroos scored on their first play of the drive with a 70-yard pass from senior quarterback Clay Boaz to senior Chris Madison to get within five points at 24-19.
On the Mustangs' first play of their next drive, Sweetwater quarterback Kaegan Jeffrey mishandled the ball and the Buckaroos had a chance to recover the fumble, but were unable to secure the ball.
Five plays later, Jeffrey passed to Bray Amos for a six yard touchdown to extend the Mustangs' lead to 32-19.
That sudden change in momentum was something head coach Steve Freeman pointed out as a big turning point in the game.
“We had just scored and it was about to happen again,” said Freeman. “We were about to have the ball on the four yard line, but wasn't able to secure the fumble. That was a big missed opportunity for us.”
