Pastor Johnny Griffith, age 78 of Breckenridge, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Stephens Memorial Hospital.  Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, October 15th at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Don Clevenger & Pastor Jerry Maston officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Johnny Jefferson Griffith was born October 6, 1935 in Groesbeck, Texas to parents, Leonard Owens Griffith & Edna Ethel Crocker Griffith.  Johnny grew up and attended school at Marlin and later received his GED.  He continued his education at Southwestern Assemblies of God College in Waxahachie for two years, Tyler Jr. College, and Word of Faith Bible Institute at Dallas.  He married Verna Lee Tyler on August 25, 1956 in Snook, Texas.
The Griffith Family lived in Eldorado until moving to Breckenridge in 1966.  Pastor Griffith pastored many Assembly of God churches in Eldorado, Lindale and Mesa, Arizona until they moved back to Breckenridge in 1974 and founded People's Church.  He was a member of the International Charismatic Bible Conference at Oral Roberts University and was ordained by the Assemblies of God & People's Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Owens Griffith & Edna Ethel Crocker Griffith; two brothers, Milton Griffith and Milburn Griffith; one sister, Allie Ingram.
Pastor Griffith is survived by his wife of 57 years, Verna Griffith of Breckenridge; one son, Rev. Jonathan Griffith & wife Lisa of Cordell, Oklahoma; one daughter, Sherry Russell of Aubrey; four granddaughters, Michelle Wright & husband Roland of Rawlins, Wyoming, Stephanie Griffith, Chelsey Griffith, Shelby Griffith, all of Cordell, Oklahoma; three great grandsons, Jayden Wright, Braden Wright and Hunter Wright, all of Rawlins, Wyoming; two great granddaughters, Cassandra Wright & Kelli Wright; one niece, Paula Poteet of Marble Falls.
