Breckenridge s Luis Ramirez dropped by Sidney Durham s house to thank her for writing a letter to him while he was in basic training. The letter was part of an assignment given to her in Vince Moore s class at South Elementary. (Lori Durham)
One day at South Elementary, sixth-grader Sidney Durham was just following her assignment in Vince Moore's class.
Moore had asked students in his class to write a letter to someone serving in the armed forces or to a veteran for Christmas.
Durham chose active duty Marine Luis Ramirez of Breckenridge.
Durham's letter consisted of thanking Ramirez for serving in the armed forces and protecting our freedom and country.
However, to her surprise, Ramirez, after recently completing his basic training, paid Durham a visit while in Breckenridge over the Christmas holidays to personally thank her for writing the letter.
Ramirez recently returned back to his Marine duties. He will be stationed in San Diego, Calif. for a few months and then will continue on his duties.
Ramirez is the son of Luis and Laura Ramirez of Breckenridge.
