Breckenridge - Howard M. VanMeter Sr., 82, died Monday, June 17, 2013 in Abilene.
Funeral service with the Rev. Dennis Hall officiating will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, in the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with interment following in the Breckenridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. today, June 19. Arrangements are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.
Howard M. VanMeter Sr. was born on July 6, 1930, in Tecumseh, Okla. to William Howard Van Meter and Myrtle Frances Arnold Van Meter.  He married Roberta Sue Coker in July of 1949 and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2004. He had worked as a chemical technician for El Paso products.
Survivors include daughters: Judy Frances Clanton and husband, Jerry of Katy and Vickie Sue Ellison of Parker, Colo.; son, Max Van Meter Jr. and wife Cheryl Ann of Breckenridge; sisters, Mable Page and Billie Holland both of Tecumseh, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a sister. Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care.
