He was born on Jan. 12, 1926, at Parks Camp to Allison W. and Vesta Barber McPherson, the eighth of nine children.
He was named after his nurse, Tommie, and after his doctor, Dr. Wray. Tommie attended school at Parks Camp and later at Burkburnett.
At age 17, he joined the US Navy and after World War II continued his career in the Merchant Marines winding up in the Seattle, Wash. area.
As a young man, Tommie also worked in the oilfields of West Texas and always said he left two toes in Texas, being cut off by a dropped joint of drill pipe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Ola (1915), Cordie (2005), Riley (2005), J.T. (1992), Fred (2012), Stanford (1944), Marie (1998), and A.W. (1989), and also a son, Shane.
Tommie is survived by his wife Lucy; daughter, Jeannie Sage; sons: Ray and wife Beth and Tommie Ray; daughter, Tony Lynn; and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved their Papa.
