Born to the late C. Victor and Ethel Pierce Ekstrom in Worcester, Mass., Lee graduated in 1942 as an electrical engineer from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity and was elected to the engineering honorary society Tau Beta Pi. He also ran track, primarily the 220-yard sprint.
While working for Sperry Gyroscope in Fort Worth, he met Mozelle Veale. They were married at University Christian Church in 1944 and spent most of their married life in Fort Worth. They remained members of University Christian Church, where Lee served as usher for over 50 years, and celebrated 64 years of marriage before Mozelle's death in 2008.
Lee managed the family ranch in Aledo from 1947 until retiring in 1991. He was active with United Cerebral Palsy, serving as president of both Cerebral Palsy of Tarrant County and Cerebral Palsy of Texas, and also served as president of the Child Study Center.
Lee was very fond of his time at South Padre Island, where he and Mozelle enjoyed their many fellow owner and winter Texan friends. He was president of the owners' association of the Marisol Condominiums, a member of the Comanches Investment Club for many years and a charter member of Ridglea Country Club.
The family is very grateful to all who spent time with him and helped him out in recent years.
In addition to his wife, Lee was preceded in death by his younger brother, Howard, and his eldest son, Richard.
