Mike was born in Lubbock to Charles and Hattie Hagler and grew up in Breckenridge.
In high school he competed in tennis, basketball and track.
He was high point man at the district track meet, all-district in basketball, played in the band and orchestra and was an Eagle Scout.
At Tarleton Junior College, Mike was the second-leading scorer in basketball and high-point man at the conference track meet.
He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in Education from The University of North Texas, where he ran on several record-setting relay teams and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
Mike married Patricia Sazama of Albany.
After teaching and coaching in Odessa, Texas City and Victoria, he spent 31 years in administration at Midwestern State University.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia.
Survivors include a brother, John Hagler of Breckenridge; daughter Dana Smith and husband Danny of Coupland; daughter Sharon Jones and husband Mark of Amarillo; and granddaughter Jamie Jones.
