“It was phenomenal to get him signed and I couldn’t be happier for him,” said head offensive line coach Pete Medlock. “Our coaching staff has a really good relationship with the staff at East Texas Baptist and the coach and Nick have a similar background. I think it was a really good fit for him”
“I think his best days of football are in front of him and he has been the best offensive lineman that I have ever coached,” said Medlock. “Nick is a great example for our program, who works hard both in the classroom and on the field.

Bernal was a First Team All-District selection and was selected to the Second Team All-Big Country in 2012 and 2013.
He was recently selected to play in the Big Country FCA All-Star game to be held later this spring.
Bernal also was a Second Team All-District selection in 2011 and was the highest graded offensive line player from 2010-2013, with an 82 percent per game career average.
Of three highest graded offensive lineman performances, Bernal has two of them.
The first came against Clifton in 2011 with 94 percent and the second was 93 percent against Colorado City in 2013.
Bernal was a power lifting Regional Qualifier in 2011 as a freshman and had a squat lift of 625 lbs. in May 2013.
