The first Monday in August each year is a day that many high school athletes across the state mark on their calendars at the end of the school year.

Several high school teams across the state of Texas participated in various summer activities ranging from individual camps and team camps to seven-on-seven games and various summer league games. 

However, on Monday, Aug. 4, high school athletes will get their official first taste of the new sports season with two-a-day workouts.
Some school districts will choose to do ‘midnight madness workouts’ at midnight Aug. 4, while others will begin workouts at various times Monday morning.

Student athletes should have received a copy of the following documents and forms at the end of the 2013-2014 school year: The Buckaroo Oath, Athletic Handbook, Consent of Treatment of a Minor, Acknowledgement of Rules, Illegal Steroid Use, Concussion Acknowledgement Form and Random Drug Testing Authorization Form. All forms must be turned in by the start of practice Monday, Aug. 4.

The following is information regarding to volleyball, cross country and football workouts.

Lady Buckaroo Volleyball

In order to participate in the first day of practice, players need to make sure that the paper work mentioned above has been turned into the coaching staff.


Athletes will not be allowed to participate in drills until all paperwork is turned in.

If a player has not turned in the forms, they will need to bring them to practice signed by the player and guardian on Monday, Aug. 4.
All incoming 9th-11th grade players are required by the UIL to have a recent physical on file.

If you had a physical completed with the school district, the coaching staff will have yours on file.
If you did not, or were not cleared at the time, you should bring a completed physical with you.

On Monday, athletes will report to the gym at 6:30 p.m. in order to receive equipment and turn in paperwork.

Once this process is completed, players will do conditioning with the cross country team beginning at 7 a.m., at the city park.

Cross country

The cross country team workouts will begin at 7 a.m. Any boy or girl interested in running cross country and all volleyball players will meet at the Breckenridge City Park. Make sure all athletes come dressed to workout.

BJHS cross county girls and boys are more than welcome to attend.

Buckaroo Football

The Buckaroo football team will report at 6:45 a.m. on Monday for coaches to issue equipment.
The team will practice from 8 a.m. to noon Aug. 4-13 and from 4-7:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 14, due to BISD In-Service.
Friday, Aug. 9 will be the first day of full contact drills for the Bucks.
The Buckaroos first scrimmage will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Ram Stadium in Mineral Wells.
The Bucks will host Early in a scrimmage  at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21.
