Community increases efforts during pandemic

Tue, 03/24/2020 - 9:01 am

Due to the executive order from Governor Greg Abbott, Stephens County will see an impact on various items around the town.

Courts, eateries and other locations will have to follow the directives of the governor and adjust hours to further assist the community.

“We will have new hours at the courthouse for the seniors of the community,” County Judge Michael Roach said. “Nine in the morning until eleven, will only be for those who are 60 years of age and older or any individuals with underlying health conditions and are susceptible to COVID-19.”

The order will also limit social gatherings to ten people and will prohibit eating and drinking at restaurants and bars.

Takeout and delivery will still be allowed for most businesses but the changes will have an economic effect on Stephens County.

Buckaroo Burgers will have delivery hours from 5-8:30 p.m. Sunday-Friday and 11 a.m to 2 p.m. and 5-8:30 p.m. Saturday.

L&L Country Cooking restaurant will be open, but will only provide takeout orders to customers.

The virus will also affect supermarkets around Breckenridge.

Beginning March 17, Dollar General is encouraging the first hour of each day to senior shoppers, as well as amended store operating hours. All stores plan to close one hour earlier than current close times to allow employees to clean and re-stock store shelves.

Through April 28, Walmart stores will commit the first hour of opening to senior shopping event every Tuesday for customers age 60 and older. Walmart will have temporary operating hours of 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

United Supermarkets will have adjusted hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will be open 6 to 9 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays for seniors.
