Breckenridge ISD sets superintendent search schedule

Texas Association of School Board Executive Search Services was awarded the Breckenridge ISD Superintendent search contract and officially presented their timeline of events at the BISD Board meeting.

Butch Felkner of TASB/ESS spoke to the board about the timeline and calendar for the BISD Superintendent search. He stated that one of the first things the board and TASB will do is hold a live meeting along with a survey for people to put their input in for Superintendent search. 

Lady Bucks win Dublin Tournament

The Breckenridge Lady Buckaroos Varsity is off to one of their best starts in school history, winning the Dublin Basketball Tournament and moving to 12-1 on the season.

The Lady Bucks competed in Dublin on Thursday, Dec. 5 through Saturday, Dec. 7, winning four games and coming back to Breckenridge with the Tournament banner. Breckenridge was able to control the pace of play in each game with a mixture of fast-break baskets and set plays.

Stephens County Sheriff removes his name from ballot

Just weeks after announcing his re-election campaign, Stephens County Sheriff Will Holt has removed himself from the Republican primary ballot, according to a press release.

Sheriff Holt stated in his announcement that this decision to not run for Sheriff again came after “an enormous amount of prayer, reasoning, and wrestling with myself and God over the last year and more.” He pointed out that when he will continue to serve out his full-term, but believes there is a better candidate for Sheriff.

Breckenridge City Commission pins dedicated employees

Business talk was not the highlight of Tuesday's City Commission meeting. Breckenridge department heads took the time to individuality congratulate each employee that has now gained a minimum of five years with the City of Breckenridge.

The first honoree has dedicated himself to the city's cemetery for twenty years, John Trigg was honored by Stacey Harrison. Trigg is the one responsible for the grounds being properly maintained to honor the loved ones memories and their families.

SMH Administrator, CEO resigns

Stephens Memorial Hospital District is being met with the challenge of replacing CEO and Hospital Administrator Matthew B. Kempton.

SMHD received written notice of Kempton's resignation on Oct. 16.

The Board for SMHD called a special meeting on Oct. 31. The actions of this meeting were to accept the resignation of Kempton.

Stephens County Sheriff's Office makes another drug bust

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office made two more arrests of a male and female as a part of a methamphetamine drug-dealing ring, according to Stephens County Sheriff Will Holt.

In back-to-back days the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office has seized 27.5 grams of methamphetamine, which is just under 1 ounce.

BISD selects Superintendent search firm

The search has begun for Breckenridge ISD, as they look for a new superintendent to take over the district after this school year. 

In a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 18 the board voted 6-1 in favor of Executive Search Services which is a part of the Texas Association of School Boards. ESS/TASB had presented their search proposal in the Monday, Nov. 11 meeting.

Stephens County Sheriff drug dealing, possession arrest

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office arrested a male on Friday, Nov. 22 on Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance and Possession of a Controlled Substance, according to Sheriff Will Holt.

In Sheriff Holt’s Probable Cause Statement, he states that Callen Wimberly, 28, was arrested after he was called to a residence on “a possible criminal trespass of a third person.” When Holt arrived at the residence he found Wimberly quickly exiting a bedroom, Holt went to see what was in the bedroom, he found a white female trying to hide.
