Artist Kay Walton shares “The Providence Forum”

Wed, 11/25/2020 - 5:00 am

The Breckenridge Woman’s Forum met on Tuesday, Nov. 11, with a program presented by Kay Walton, an artist, who spoke about “The Providence Forum.” Their mission is to “Preserve, defend and advance the faith of the Judeo-Christian values of our nation’s Founding Fathers.

The president of “The Providence Forum,” Peter Lilliback wrote an extensive and well-researched biography of George Washington and explained what his faith meant to him as he led his troops against the British, and demonstrated how much he depended on prayer as he led the new nation as the first president of the United States.

Lilliback also wrote, “Wall of Deception,” which gives the historical background of the First Amendment and the ‘Establishment Clause’ and the ‘Freedom of Religion Clause.’ The author ties an application of the First Amendment rights to current times.

“It is interesting to note,” said Kay Walton, “that God is referred to four times in our Founding document, the Declaration of Independence.”

Also, Forum members might want to check on William Penn’s ‘Charter of Privileges’ in Pennsylvania, which contained the “Freedom to Worship God according to the dictates of one’s own conscience.”

The hostesses were led by the chairman, Barbara Thornton, and cochair, Julie Herring, and the hostess committee of Tressie Dempsey, Cassie Griffith, Pam Griffith, Beverly Olson and Lytane Parker. The lunch was catered by United Supermarket.

The Woman’s Forum will take part in Mingle & Jingle by selling Christmas tree ornaments and the Junior Forum will be selling candles from 5 to 9 p.m. at Tommy Wimberley’s Oil Derrick lot downtown

The December meeting of the Woman’s Forum also will be a week early, on Dec. 15, with ’The Piano Man’ to entertain with music from the holidays. RSVP with Ann Miller.
