District Governor visits Rotary Club

Wed, 11/11/2020 - 5:00 am

The Rotary Club of Breckenridge was joined by Roger Paschal, District Governor of District 5790, during the Tuesday, November 3, weekly meeting.

Paschal provided the group with updates on the process of the Rotary Club and information on the special projects the club are working on.

“This is Rotary, and this is what we do,” Paschal said. “We help the common person with uncommon circumstances.”

The club is also assisting citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Paschal said, “We have started a new program on our district website. We have joined our Dallas district (5810) to form the Rotary Jobs and Business Connections. We were approached by several clubs saying we have Rotarians in our club, who are underemployed or unemployed and looking for ways to assist them. We started an employee area within our district website. The individual would make a resume available, and businesses and owners can look through those resumes.”

Paschal also provided details on a United States Department and United Nation project to assist individuals in Ukraine deal with cervical cancer.

“Our district was approached by the State Department and the United Nations to be apart of a project,” Paschal said. “It’s called the Inter-Country Committee Project, and we are one of two districts in the United States. We have partnered with a district in Ukraine to put together a program for the doctors to come to the United States. These doctors will be trained on how to identify cervical cancer and how to treat it. The money we raised will be matched with our district designated funds to double the amount. Rotary International matches those funds, and the State Depart matches that two to one. It will help a lot of women in Ukraine avoid and handle cervical cancer.”
