Hospital officials update Rotary on COVID-19; meal delivery program
The Rotary Club of Breckenridge welcomed three special guests from the Stephens Memorial Hospital District to the weekly meeting on Tuesday, July 28 meeting.
The club listened to advice and details from key members of SMH including Kelli Windsor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Chris Curtis Director of Business Development, and Sarah Shumate, Dietary Director.
“I’ve had a lot of business owners or leaders of departments who have had an employee test positive for the coronavirus,” Dr. Kelli Windsor, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine said. “They are concerned about rather they need to have all their employees tested for the virus and that is not a helpful way to look at it. If a person is exposed it takes at least 5-7 days for a test to become positive. I don’t see a big benefit for testing all employees if one person has the virus. I think it more beneficial to monitor for symptoms, allow those to work from home who can and wear masks.”
Dr. Windsor provided the club with a perspective on wearing masks and showed the club the effectiveness of masks wearing on citizens.
While discussing data and protection during the COVID-19 pandemic, the hospital staff also provided club members details on the delivery process of the Meals on Wheels program.
“We have taken over the senior meals,” Sarah Shumate, SMH Dietary Director said. “When we started they were doing 22 people per each route and now we have broken it down into five routes.”
The Rotary Club of Breckenridge will serve meals to seniors during August as club members were divided into groups, and are set to begin delivering meals during the first week of August.
