Rotary Club distributes meals to seniors citizens

Wed, 08/19/2020 - 5:00 am

For the entire month of August, the Rotary Club of Breckenridge has delivered meals to senior citizens in the Breckenridge community.

In July, club members were divided into groups, and since the first week of August has delivered meals.

“It’s the smiles on these seniors face that makes this worthwhile,” Karen Martin, the club member in charge of membership said. “When you realize that you have shut-ins and you’re the only contact they have, and we’re furnishing a meal that they otherwise wouldn’t have is extremely fulfilling. I feel like we are making a difference.“

The process begins at about 9 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for club members. Members arrive at the loading docks of the Stephens Memorial Hospital District to pick up meals.

The hospital designates diabetic citizens from non-diabetics and after the meals are packed into the vehicle by SMH staff, club members are off to deliver meals.

The process takes about an hour to navigate through the community and meals leave seniors with a satisfying feast for the day.

The Rotary Club of Breckenridge will continue to meet every Tuesday, at L & L County Cooking. The club is always looking for members of the community to assist during these trying times.
