BISD Superintendent Bryan Allen spoke to the Rotary Club of Breckenridge during the regularly scheduled meeting at L & L Restaurant. Allen provided the club with knowledge on his journey to the district and his innovative strategy to educate scholars

Breckenridge Independent School District Superintendent Bryan Allen was the guest speaker for the Rotary Club of Breckenridge during the Tuesday, August 25 meeting.

Allen spoke of his strategy of educating the youth of BISD and his chance of making a difference in student’s lives.

“We want to try to create a classroom, that a kid would buy a ticket to get into,” Superintendent Allen said. “If we can create that type of excitement of getting into the classroom and learning something new, then we will allow students to investigate things they want to learn. Creating excitement for students learning is something we want to get to at some point.”

Allen was also able to provide the club with insight into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the steps the school district is taking to provide students with the best education.

“Since I’ve been here since May 1, we’ve had to make some difficult adjustments,” Superintendent Allen said. “It was because the guidance we have received from the Texas Education Agency, Texas Department of State Health Service, and the Center for Disease Control have been so fluent and so changing, not just week to week but sometimes day-today, has been a struggle. Coming up with a plan on paper to make the community feel confident, has been our biggest struggle over the summer. When it comes to challenges, I think a challenge is an opportunity to get better, to improve, and as an administrative team, this is how we’ve attacked this situation. We’ll have some plans and protocols in place, to handle a situation that arises.”

BISD is in the second full week of the school year and is working through in-class and remote learning. The district is looking into providing students with Chromebook devices to better facilitate the learning process.

“We are going to have a device in every child’s hand,” Allen said. “The ability to integrate technology into the classroom and meet the kids where they are is a win for the district.”

Superintendent Allen is looking forward to a successful school year of educating the youth of Breckenridge ISD in his first year. Allen’s first task, combating the COVID-19 virus.

The Rotary Club of Breckenridge will continue to meet every Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. inside the L & L Country Cooking Restaurant.
