Woodson 4th of July community celebration

Wed, 06/22/2022 - 12:00 am

The Woodson 4th of July Celebration is back. The former "Blowout" is now the Community Celebration. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. Monday, July 4, and will be held at the Woodson Community Center grounds.

Bring a lawn chair and come enjoy the evening. There will be live music by Jolie & Sonny, The Urban Pioneers, Jamie Toleson, the Steve Helms Band, and Fiddle Ben.

The evening is open to all and many activities will be available to attendees. First, find your turtle. There will be turtle races. Turtles will be divided into heats based on size and then there will be a final race between winners of each heat. Decorate your turtle, but make sure decorations won't hurt it and can be removed before the turtle is set free after the contest.

For a small fee, there will be a dunking booth and cow patty bingo. There will be minihorse pictures, and a remote control car race, which is $10 to enter, but participants will keep the car.

There will be a water balloon toss that is free.

There will be a cornhole tournament from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Call Rick Reynolds at 517-294- 6043 to register.

There will be burgers, snow cones, mac & cheese, ice cream, chips, and homemade desserts.

There is booth space available to rent. Those interested in booking a booth can call Amber Boland at 940-521-1687.

Banner sponsorships are available and the banner can be kept to keep when the evening ends. Those interested in a banner can call Angie Hewlett at 940-345-0144.

Of course there will be fireworks. It promises to be quite a show.

All proceeds raised will benefit “Project Community Center.” For more information, call Angela at Hometown Hardware, 817- 776-0611.

So, call if you need booth space. Or, go catch a turtle. Come find a treasure or eat good food. Bring the family and lawn chairs to watch the fireworks.

So make the short drive to Woodson and let's celebrate our country together.
