“For Auld Lang Syne”

“Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and days of auld lang syne?”

It’s not a Christmas Carol, but this Scottish song has become the most widely sung song of the new year. Few know what it truly asks. Should we forget our old acquaintances? Should we forget the days gone by or the old times? Or, the long, long ago? I would hope not. No matter how good or how bad days have been, memories are a part of the formation of our lives, dripping down, and coating, to form the tip of the stalactite that holds tight to the ceiling of our life. The “old days” build in us our character, strength and knowledge.

Well, the first semester has ended – remember it, kids. For old times’ sake, and that of your education. School will resume Jan. 7, to begin building on prior knowledge.

The new portables at the school are coming along and will be in use soon.

Basketball will be in full swing when we get back. So will stock show season. Which, by the way, kicks off with the Throckmorton County show this weekend. Jan. 4 is weighin and Jan. 5 is the show and sale. Get those critters and ag mech projects ready.

To donate in any way and in any amount, please send a check to TCJLS, c/o Tacy Ellis, 427 S. US Hwy 183, Woodson, 76491. The Throckmorton County Junior Livestock Show would appreciate your support. You are invited to watch the show. The sale will follow immediately after the show.

The Fifth Sunday Gospel Singing was also at the FBC on Dec. 30. We started singing at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
