Breckenridge ISD will continue one of its longest-standing traditions next weekend as Breckenridge High School hosts the 101st Coronation of the Buckaroo Queen.
The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. in Bailey Auditorium, bringing students, families, alumni and community members together for a night that has defined Buckaroo culture for more than a century.
This year’s coronation will feature the crowning of Lane Bartoskewitz as the 2025-26 Buckaroo Queen by Great Lord Chamberlain Christian Flores, who will lead the traditional procession that includes the Royal Court
Last year’s 100th coronation marked a milestone for the community. The ceremony honored 22 past Buckaroo Queens and seven past Great Lord Chamberlains, celebrating the generations who helped shape the tradition. At that event, Yanet Benitez was crowned Buckaroo Queen by Great Lord Chamberlain Sawyer Wimberley.
With the centennial celebration now in the books, this year’s coronation returns to its familiar rhythm, a showcase of student leadership, school spirit and the Buckaroo identity that continues to connect Breckenridge residents across decades.
The coronation traces its roots to the mid-1920s, when the first official Buckaroo Queen was crowned. While the ceremony has evolved over time, its purpose remains the same: to honor students chosen to represent the school and community.
