The Breckenridge Lions Club hosted a special guest during the Friday, September 25 weekly meeting. In preparation for the fourth Annual Sloan Everett Memorial Bike Ride, the club listened to Elizabeth Everett, the sister of Sloan Everett.
The Sloan Everett Memorial Bike Ride is being held at the Breckenridge City Park on Saturday, October 17. Along with the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, the two have determined to move forward with this year’s event despite the COVID-19 virus.
“The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce approached us about doing a bike ride in Sloan’s honor in 2017, Elizabeth Everett said. “This is the fourth year that we are doing this event and have chosen to give it more meaning by raising money for the volunteer fire department.”
The event will offer four new scenic routes throughout Stephens and Young Counties, including the addition of a 100k route.
This year’s event will benefit local volunteer fire departments. In 2019, the Pure Country Pedal raised a total of $13,136.20, allowing donations of $4,378.73 each to the Caddo, Hubbard Creek, and Wayland volunteer fire departments. These volunteers play an invaluable role in protecting lives and property and, put themselves in harm’s way without necessary resources.
The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce and Everett family are seeking partnering as a sponsor to help achieve the mission of supporting local volunteer fire departments.
