The state of Texas has extended the early voting period for the November general election by six days, citing continued challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Governor Greg Abbott announced the extension on Monday, July 27 in a statement.

Early voting for the Tuesday, November, 3 elections will now begin Tuesday, October 13 instead of Monday, October 19. The end date remains Friday, October 30.

But the Monday, July 27 announcement from Gov. Abbott, the option for eligible mail-in voters was given more time to turn in their completed ballots in person if they would like to do so.

Current law allows those voters to submit their ballots to the early voting clerk’s office in person instead of mailing them in, but only while polls are open on Election Day. Abbott’s latest move expands that option to the entire early voting period.

Abbott also extended the early voting process for the July runoff election. The early voting period shifted the start date from Monday, July 6 to Monday, June 29. The end date was Fri day, July 10.

In addition to the presidential race, citizens will vote Tuesday, November 3 on the election for the United States Senator, as well as a host of national contests for the U.S. House and Texas House.
