Area investigation underway of law enforcement impersonation incident

The Young County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident of the impersonation of a law enforcement officer which occurred Friday, Nov. 19. The Throckmorton County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Saturday, Nov. 20, detailing the incident which occurred to a female resident of Throckmorton traveling from Graham. All counties that border Throckmorton County were notified.

TCSO wrote in their post on their Facebook page that a female resident from Throckmorton was traveling home from Graham on U.S. Hwy. 380 around 6:20 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, when she were stopped by a dark SUV near FM 578. The SUV had no markings and only had a set of red and blue dash lights and possibly a white light bar or spot light, according to YCSO.

The Throckmorton resident was approached by a white male who was not wearing a uniform or badge, but only had a gun belt with a holstered pistol. The male suspect ordered the female driver to exit the vehicle after stating she was stopped for an equipment violation, according to YCSO. The male suspect did not identify himself with any agency.

“The female did not exit the vehicle and when two vehicles passed by and applied their brakes the male returned to his vehicle and made a u-turn and left the scene last seen turning on FM 578 toward (Murray),” TCSO wrote Saturday, Nov. 20.

Young County Sheriff Travis Babcock wrote Monday, Nov. 22, YCSO is investigating the incident. According to YCSO, the suspect is described as being a tall, white male in his late 20s or early 30s wearing a long-sleeve white shirt, jeans, a black gun belt with a holstered gun and a baseball cap pulled down low over his eyes. The suspect is also described as having scruffy facial hair and a deep voice.
