Constitution Day celebrated in Breckenridge

On Constitution Day, Monday, Sept. 17, all Breckenridge ISD campuses have been invited to participate in the recognition of the 231st anniversary of the final signature being placed on the U.S. Constitution. At 3 p.m., the bells around Breckenridge and county-wide will be ringing to commemorate the occasion. The public was invited to join the churches, BISD and others for the occasion.

Art Exhibit

The Portrait Society of America is having a Texas members only show at the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center in the Main Gallery. There are 68 oil portraits entered in the show. This is the first time the PSOA has allowed a Texas members only show. Additionally, Kim Roberti brought 55 portraits and seven still life oils to exhibit in the East Gallery. Both exhibits opened Tuesday, Sept. 11 and will run through Friday, Oct. 26. A reception was held for the artists, Saturday, Sept. 15.

Mayor declares Sept. 17 to 23 as ‘Constitution Week’

Mayor Bob Simms declared next week ‘Constitution Week’ at the city offices of Breckenridge. At the signing included members of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The proclamation marks the beginning of several events yet to come in Breckenridge in honor of Constutition Day.

Breck Trade Days happening Saturday, Sept. 15

Breck Trade Days is occurring at Breckenridge Park on Saturday. The Hubbard Creek Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a fundraiser and will be providing brisket sandwiches, tacos, chips and a drink for $7. It is unknown how many vendors will be at the event, but on average there have been between 8-10 in the past. At around 10:30 a.m. there is supposed to be a band playing. Vendors will set up around 8 a.m. Vendors are welcome.

Gas update

As of Sept. 10 gas prices in Texas had risen 0.8 cents per gallon, averaging $2.60 per gallon, according to a GasBuddy daily survey. Nationwide, the price has increased 1.6 cents per gallon to an average of $2.84 per gallon. Compared to this time last year locally, gas prices are almost 10 cents higher than they were this time a year ago, but almost 3 cents lower than last month. Nationwide, the average gallon has dropped 2.5 cents per gallon and is currently more than 18 cents higher than a year ago. According to GasBuddy, despite the hurricane coming to the Carolinas, gas prices should remain steady.

Monthly sales tax revenue goes up in Texas

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced Wednesday his office will be sending local entities (counties, cities, transit systems, etc.) a total of $738.8 million in local sales tax revenue for the month of September. This is 10.5 percent more than September last year, according to a press release from the comptroller’s office. These allocations are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.

Drilling permits in Texas

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 1,110 original drilling permits last month, which is 15 less than the previous year, according to a press release from the commission. This includes 31 permits to drill oil and/or gas holes, 10 oil completions and 2 gas completions in West Central Texas, which is where Stephens County resides.
