Area this week: forecast

Tue, 10/02/2018 - 12:35 pm

Here is what is happening this week:

City commissioners to meet

The Breckenridge City Commissioners will meet for their normal meeting at 5:30 p.m. The agenda looks to be short, with four items on the consent agenda and a couple resolutions up for individual consideration. One item of note is a resolution that will allow for the city manager to apply for a Criminal Justice Division Grant.

Block clean-up

Several groups around the city will participate in a block clean-up from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. These groups include the Lions Club and the high school football teams. For photos of the event and a recap, visit the Breckenridge American website Wednesday, or check out photos in our next newspaper edition on Oct. 10.

National Night Out on Tuesday

Tuesday night will mark the 35th anniversary of National Night Out, an event hosted by law officials to promote neighborhood safety and awareness. The event for Stephens County is being put on by the sheriff’s office. The event will last from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will have food for attendees. For the full story and photos, visit the Breckenridge American website on Wednesday.

Lady Bucks look to bounce back

The volleyball team will be at home Tuesday evening against Jacksboro. The Lady Bucks are coming off a blow-out loss from Saturday against Boyd, where they were beat in three sets by a combined score of 15-75. On Friday, Oct. 5, they will travel to Tolar.

Bucks on a bye

The Buckaroos varsity team will be on a bye week this week, and will be spending their time more in the community this week. Next week, they will travel to Jim Ned, which will mark the first district game of the season.

Boil water notice rescinded

The boil water notice for certain areas of the city has been rescinded, according to the city website. The notice was effective Sept. 22 due to an interruption in the city’s service. This meant before water could be consumed in these areas, the water needed to be boiled. Since issuing this, the city has worked with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to restore the water the pressure and disinfectant levels necessary for consumption.
