BISD approves purchase of new bus, weight equipment

Thu, 12/23/2021 - 9:05 am

The Breckenridge ISD Board of Trustees in a regular meeting Monday, Dec. 13 voted to approve the purchase of new weight room equipment and a new bus.

The newly approved weight room equipment will be funded with Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds. According to the Texas Association of School Administrators, the state received $1.3 billion in ESSER I funding, an additional $5.5 billion in ESSER II, and $12.4 billion in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds (also referred to as ESSER III).

“So when we first got our ESSER allotment, we were coming up with our spending plan, and one of our ideas on using some of those funds was to the stock, additional weight room, and that would help us, you know, spread kids out not be as crowded or congested into one or two areas. And so we submitted that to TEA (Texas Education Agency) and that got approved.” BISD Superintendent Bryan Allen said.

BISD Athletic Director Casey Pearce spoke about the new weight room equipment, stating they opted for a quote which offered a better quality, longer lasting weight material and better warranty terms for the equipment.
