Breckenridge Independent School District students arrived on campus to receive their fall 2020 schedule.

As in-class and remote learning for students begins Wednesday, August 19, the class of 2021 and 2022 arrived at Breckenridge High School on Wednesday, August 12 to find out who will be instructing them as scholars near the end of their high school journey.

Students will return to school for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic put an early end to the 2020 school year.

Under the guidance of Bryan Allen, BISD superintendent, the school district has taken a proactive approach to facilitate the future for Breckenridge youth.

In July, BISD announced a memorandum of understanding with Tarleton State allowing for the automatic acceptance of students graduating within the top 25% of their respective classes from the school district.

The memorandum of understanding will waive the requirements for such admission scores as the ACT or SAT. Students who meet Tarleton’s criteria can receive a wavier for the university admission application fee. Students should be aware that not submitting test scores may compromise their considerations for a scholarship, according to the memorandum.

Breckenridge ISD also reached a partnership between Texas State Technical College, and the Breckenridge Economic Development Corp. to provide a nursing program classes at TSTC’s Breckenridge campus. The students’ tuition for the four classes will be paid by the Breckenridge EDC.

The students will take two classes in the fall, Essentials of Medical Terminology and Essentials of Medication Administration. In the spring, the classes will be Foundations of Nursing and Pharmacology.

Additionally, BISD agreed on the purchase of Chromebooks for junior high and high school students.

The approval authorizes the purchase of Chromebooks and other technology tools, devices in the amount up to $130,000. The reason for the purchase is to provide students with greater access to learning in a digital/remote environment.

While the pandemic may have caused a delay for students, it hasn’t stopped BISD and their attempt to improve the lives of scholars.
