Boss Oilfield Supply cuts ribbon with Chamber

Wed, 01/23/2019 - 5:00 am

Boss Oilfield Supply hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce, Friday, Jan. 18 and held a luncheon for attendees to follow it.

Though, the company has been open since October. Representatives at the company explained the work that went into launching the company, which is located at what used to be Oasis Bar on W. Walker Street.

Gary Drake and Sterling Rutland were two of the main people involved in starting the company up. Drake had been in Breckenridge for 36 years prior to opening Boss. He worked for Knox Oilfield Supply for about two decades, which closed down just weeks before the two set out to make Boss a reality. When Drake left Knox he was replaced by Rutland as the manager. Rutland had also worked under Drake for about five years.

They began the process of setting up the company in August. Drake and Rutland talked about the work that went into setting it up, such as having to scrape the glue off the floors and gathering inventory. They opened shop on Oct. 1.

Drake and Rutland didn’t have a long list of issues they’ve faced, but said the recent weather with rain has made business hard at times.

“The rain has put a hit in [the business],” Drake said. “Mother nature has really got us.”

Some of what they have done since beginning the operation is get involved in the Chamber of Commerce. Rutland is also designing a website for Boss, which he hopes will be launched by the end of February.

Both Rutland and Drake stressed the work that has gone into getting Boss going. They said they often times worked seven days a week, sometimes 15 hours a day. A big part of this they said was inventory, labor and elbow grease.

Drake said he has high hopes for 2019 regarding the business and what they can get done in the new year.

“Putting this thing in, it’s been a chore,” Drake said. “But we’ve gotten it done.”
