The Breckenridge Police Department has located three individuals in connection with the burglary of the Bayer-Chevrolet and Buick auto-building. The burglary occurred on Monday, August 3, and involved the theft of cash and a white 2018 Chevrolet truck.

According to the probable cause affidavit, “an employee arrived at around 6:20 a.m. to open the shop. After opening the garage, the employee went into the service office and found several desk drawers open.

“They called and realized that some money was stolen, “Bacel Cantrell, Breckenridge Police Chief said. “Then we were called again as they realized they had a truck stolen. They did a GPS tracking on the truck and it pinged in Hickory Creek, Texas at a Walmart.”

Approximately $101 was missing and the employee found a window on the southwest side of the building broken and opened. Later that morning, as Bayer employees were conducting an inventory check, the group realized that a white 2018 Chevrolet truck was also stolen.

With GPS tracking, the truck was traced to Hickory Creek, Texas, about 135 miles west of Breckenridge. With assistance from the Hickory Creek Police Department, three individuals were taken into custody and accused of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The subjects were identified as Fabian Acosta, Jose Vargas, and a minor.

Acosta agreed to talk to HCPD officers and BPD received a recording of the interview on Thursday, August 6. Acosta informed HCPD on Sunday, August 2, he stole a car from the bail bondsman in town and went joyriding. The subject admitted to crashing into a truck on the highway and not stopping. He admittedly knew he was in trouble and needed to get out of town, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Acosta was dropped off down the street of Bayer by his girlfriend(minor) and Vargas and stated that “they knew what he was doing but did not go on the property.”

Acosta revealed that he stole the cash out of a desk in the office and then took the keys from the key box and stole the truck. Fabian admitted that he returned to his girlfriend’s house to pick her and Vargas up. The three left town and were found in Hickory Creek.

A warrant for Vargas was issued on August 12 for the burglary of a building. BPD plans to charge all three with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and burglary of a building, both are a state jail felony.
