• Come and join BISD Students for a Thanksgiving Meal. North Elementary will have theirs Tuesday, Nov. 6. The Jr. High and High school will host theirs Thursday, Nov. 8. East Elementary will host theirs Tuesday, Nov. 13 and South Elementary will host theirs Thursday, Nov. 15. Menu will be turkey and dressing, turkey gravy, whipped potatoes, green beans, rolls and fruit salad. Price for adult meals is $5.00. Price for visiting child is $3.00 for elementary; $3.10 for Jr. High and High School. Must RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 31. No prepaid meals will be sold.

Tuesday, Nov. 6 - Friday, Jan. 4

• The Breckenridge Fine Arts Center will host a new exhibit in the Main Gallery by Soon Warren. The new exhibit is set to open at 10 a.m. An example of the exhibit is a watercolor by Warren, “Cosmos in Marbles,” with the use of bright colors.

Wednesday, Nov. 7

• DAR Lee’s Legion Chapter meeting in honor of the World War One veterans, will be at 2 p.m. at the Swenson Museum located at 116 W. Walker.

Friday, Nov. 9

• Fifth graders at South Elementary will pay tribute to veterans for Veteran’s Day in a special program from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Fifth grade social studies teacher Jennifer McKay will lead the program.

Saturday, Nov. 10

• The Stephens County Humane Society is hosting its annual Wags & Whiskers 5k and Furry Fun Run. All proceeds will go to the humane society. The event starts at 8:30 with a staggered racing schedule by age. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome to participate with their human. To be guaranteed a t-shirt, participants must be registered by Oct. 13. The cost is anywhere from $15 to $30 depending on age. Race day registration will be an additional $5.

• The Breckenridge VFW Auxiliary 7767 is hosting a Steak Cook-Off at the VFW, 216 E. Williams St. The steak contest is sanctioned by the Steak Cookoff Association World Championship qualifier. Proceeds will go to help fund the local VFW Auxiliary. There are three categories, which are appetizers, one-bite challenge and steak. There will be cash prizes in each category. The entry fee for the steak category is $150 and the one-bite and appetizer is $25. The contest will begin at 8 a.m. with setup and then at 10 a.m. the cooks will pick their steaks. • Friends of the NRA is hosting the 7th Annual Event, which will be held at 5 p.m. in the Lumber Yard Event Center at 313 W. Main, Eastland, Texas. The event is done to provide funding to programs like Eddie Eagle Gun Safety program, Women on Target, as well as providing scholarships to the Boy Scouts, 4-H and other youth shooting and educational or safety instruction. Funds raised will stay in the local area. Individual tickets are $30. Table packages are also available. Monday, Nov. 12

• Multiple locations around Breckenridge will begin collecting shoebox gifts with toys, supplies and hygienic items to gift to children. This is for the Samaritan’s Purse project. The project will collect from Nov. 12 to Nov. 19 with the goal of collecting more than 12,238 gifts for Operation Christmas Child. The goal is to reach 11 million children in need. Tuesday, Nov. 13

• A ribbon cutting at the Greenhorn Dog and Kitty Resort, located at 7294 Fm 2231, are inviting residents to check out a luxury dog and kitty resort. Those who attend will have a chance to have their names drawn for their pet to have a free night at the resort.

Thursday, Nov. 15

• There will be a Veteran’s Day Program presented by the Breckenridge Junior High and High School Student Councils. This will be held at 9 a.m. at the Breckenridge ISD Athletic and Fine Arts Center located at 400 W. Lindsey. Come and show your support and gratitude for the men and women who served out country.

• The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce is holding their annual Mingle & Jingle event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you are interested in participating in the event the year, contact the Chamber at 254-559-2301. The deadline is 5 p.m. on Nov. 8.

Wednesday, Nov. 21

• St. Jude Knights of Columbus are making turkeys for residents to order. There will 70 turkeys this year and they will range between 10 and 12 pounds in size. The purhcase price is $30. Order must be turned in by Sunday, Nov. 18. • If your trash day falls on Nov. 22, which is Thanksgiving, your trash will be picked up on Friday, Nov.

23. If your trash day is Friday, Nov. 23, it will be picked up Saturday, Nov. 24.

Friday, Nov. 30

• The 11th Annual La-Mancha Cook-Off will be held at the La Mancha Ranch on Lake Leon 402 County Road 567 Eastland, Texas. Cook-ff proceeds will benefit local animal shelters and rescues. For more information on the competition, please call 254-647-3651

Saturday, Dec. 1

• The Friends of Historic Breckenridge will host the concert, “Christmas Homecoming with Higgins,” featuring Jerrol and Tammy Higgins at 7 p.m. at the National Theatre. Tickets to the even are $25. This fundraiser goes to help the FOHB get programs for the National Theatre, such as the Missoula Theatre for children and movies for families. Contact Lisa Pitzer for more information.
