Breckenridge Independent School District announced Bryan Allen as the lone finalist for the vacant superintendent position on Wednesday, April 1. The BISD board of trustees gathered via video/teleconference to announce the new superintendent.

Allen has served as the superintendent of Merkel for the past five years and will begin the 2020-2021 school year as the superintendent of Breckenridge ISD.

While the superintendent was announced on April 1, the contract will not be issued until Thursday, April 23. There is a 21 day waiting period from the date that the board names lone
finalist.

The reason for the waiting period is due to Texas law, according to government code, section 552.021, " the board of trustees must give public notice of the name or names of the finalist being considered for the positions at least 21 days before the date of the meeting at which final action or vote is to be taken on the employment of the person.”

The board selected six applicants for an initial interview and then three applicants were invited back for a second interview. A committee of the board visited Merkel ISD and reported back to the board.

The school board will vote to offer a contract to Allen as superintendent of BISD on April 23.
