Bucks squash Albany Lions (11-1)

The Breckenridge Bucks squashed the Albany Lions with eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning after claiming two other runs in the third inning and then added one more run in the sixth inning to claim the win, (11-1).

Jonas Arellano #3 led the Bucks with three hits and both Ashton Reyes #4 and Flavio Davila #2 had two hits each. Davila was credited with three RBIs followed by Arellano and Camden Escalon #12 who both had two RBIs each. The Bucks had nine hits altogether.

Arellano also led from the mound for four innings with seven strikeouts. He gave up three walks and the lone run for the Lions in the third inning. Chad Wilcox #5 pitched the last two innings and had three strikeouts in the sixth inning. The Bucks committed three errors as did the Albany Lions.

Neither team mounted any offense in the first two innings with the Lions’ pitcher striking out three of the four batters for the Bucks in the bottom of the second inning. In the top of the third, the Lions managed to squeeze a run in, to lead, (0-1).

In the bottom of the third inning, Evan Moore #8 got a walk after the first two batters, Kaden Garcia #7 and Kason Knight #20 had struck out. Arellano hit a solid ball to centerfield and scored Moore from second base. Davila hit too left field which pushed Arellano home for the second run. Escalon struck out and left Davila on base. The Bucks now led (2-1).

In the top of the fourth inning, the first Lion batter got a hit and was on first. The second batter hit to first, which was caught by the Bucks’ first baseman, Davila and then he caught the runner off the base for the second out. The next batter got a walk and then Arellano struck out the fourth batter for the third out of the inning. The score remained (2-1).

In the top of the fourth inning, Arellano struck out one batter and gave up a walk. The infield took care of the other two outs and the score remained (2-1).

It was now the bottom of the fourth inning when the Bucks’ bats exploded for eight runs. First, Ashton Reyes #4 hit a hard grounder between left and center field and squeezed out a double. He was followed by his older brother, Ayden Reyes #13 who had a hit to short center, which allowed Ashton R. to get to third. The next batter, Zeke Castillo #11, struck out, but Ayden R. moved on to second base.

Kaden Garcia #7 had a hit that scored Ashton R. and an Albany error allowed Ayden R. to move to third. Next, Knight got a walk and Albany moved in a new pitcher, Paul Chapman. The score was now (3-1). Davila had a wellplaced bunt and Ashton R. slid across home plate for the score which was followed by Garcia in for another score. The Bucks led (5-1). Albany mishandled the bunt and Flavio managed to be safe at first with two scores made off his bunt. Arellano hit a fly ball to centerfield and Knight scored, with Flavio to third and Arellano stole to second base. Ashton R. hit a hard grounder and Flavio got home right behind the Albany catcher for another score with Arellano on third base and Ashton R. on second. Ayden R. hit a hard grounder to the Lion shortstop who missed the ball and it rolled into left field, while Arellano and Ashton R. get home for two more runs. Castillo hit a fly ball to center field which was caught. The score is now (10-1).

Neither team got a run in the fifth inning. Albany did get a hit from Cooper Fairchild, but the next batter hit to left field, which was caught by the Bucks player. He fired the ball to third base and caught the Albany runner for the second out. The next Lion batter hit straight to first base, which was caught by Davila for the third out of the inning.

Albany sent in a new pitcher, Kaden Price, and he struck out all three Buckaroo batters.

In the top of the sixth inning, Chad Wilcox struck out the first Lion batter and then the second batter hit safely to left field. Wilcox then proceeded to strike out the remaining two batters for the second and third outs of the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Arellano got a walk and quickly stole to second base. Davila slammed a hard-hit ball to the pitcher who bobbled it and then threw to first. However, Arellano had sped home during the bobbling of the ball and the pitch to first base in an attempt to catch Davila. The Bucks had the game (11-1), with the 10-Run rule applied.

On March 11-13, the Bucks JV team will participate in the Haskell Tournament, while the Bucks Varsity travels to Stamford on Friday, March 12 for a non-conference game before they start District 7 play and travel to play Holliday on Monday, March 15. Then on Wednesday of Spring Break, the Bucks will play Henrietta at home at 7 p.m.
