Stephens County Judge Michael Roach lifted the burn ban this week with caution being advised for area residents looking to conduct outdoor burning.

The judge lifted the ban Monday, April 6 with the stipulation that those intending to conduct any outside burning contact the Breckenridge Fire Department at 254-559-6242 and provide the time and location of the burning activity.

“We are grateful for the rain we have received, and with more in the forecast, conditions have improved,” the county stated online. “Even so, please continue to burn responsibly. Before you begin any outdoor burning, always contact the fire department so they have your location on file. This helps emergency personnel respond quickly if needed and can also prevent unnecessary calls for service.”

The ban was removed at the request of BFD Chief Malcolm Bufkin. Additionally, the county burn ban removal requests no outdoor burning to occur from county residents if there are 15 mile per hour winds or above.
