The Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce is currently seeking nominations for board members for their 2023 Board of Directors.

Nominees wishing to serve on the board must be current members of the chamber in good standing. Those who are not chamber members are encouraged to inquire about membership to become eligible.

“The future of the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce rests with the leadership selected in this process. Please take the time to consider and nominate the person(s) that you feel would best serve and help keep the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce a vital part of the ever-growing Breckenridge community,” an Aug. 17 email from the chamber stated.

The board of directors is comprised of nine member, representing the following sectors: Agriculture; Banking/Finance; Education; Government/Utilities, Healthcare; Lodging/Hospitality; Manufacturing/ Wholesale/ Distributors; Nonprofit/Service Organizations; Professional Services (Insurance, Legal, Real Estate, Accounting); and Retail/Downtown.

“A board member’s purpose is to provide organizational leadership and direction, and maximize the Chamber’s ability to achieve the mission. Members of the Board are selected because of the leadership in their industry and the community, their experience and ability in civic affairs, and their interest in the organization. Board members are expected to share their perspective, background, experience, knowledge and insights as they relate to matters before the Board and its committees. All board members have voting rights,” the policies state.

Three new directors are elected each year, with each director encouraged to submit one nomination each year. According to the board’s policies and responsibilities, board members are elected to serve a three-year term in October, and begin their duties Jan. 1 the following year. Attending monthly meetings is required, with three consecutive absences considered a resignation. Meetings are held at noon on the last Wednesday of each month, and last approximately one and a half hours.

Board membership can require approximately three to five hours each month, with those elected as officers required to attend one extra meeting per month.

All applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16. To submit a nomination, or to request an application, email ed@breckenridgetexas. com. Applications can be dropped off at the chamber offices at 100 E. Elm St.
