City Commissioners OK increased trash rates

Tue, 06/19/2018 - 10:53 am

City Commissioners met briefly in a special called session for the second reading of a proposed 3.2 percent increase for trash pickup. The motion passed unanimously with commissioners Rob Durham, David Wimberley and the mayor, Bob Sims present. Missing were Russell Blue and Tom Cyprian.

The bill for a residential 95-gallon poly cart emptied once a week will increase by 42 cents, to $13.55, with another 21 cents added for those who have an extra cart, making that additional cost $6.77.

Commercial rates also are increasing, between 41 cents and $1.40 for most customers, with commercial dumpster rates up $1.37 to $10.53, depending on the size of the dumpster and the frequency it is emptied.

City services rates will rise for city buildings, roll-off services, recycling roll-off containers after the eight free hauls per year are used up, and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, but not for the city’s quarterly bulk service.

The new rates are posted in an ad in this edition of the Breckenridge American.

The rate hike takes effect in the July bill, according to the city.

No other business was reported and the meeting was adjourned.
