City seeking TWDB assistance

Tue, 07/13/2021 - 9:18 am

The city of Breckenridge authorized an application with the Texas Water Development Board, seeking financial assistance not to exceed $4 million for planning, acquisition, design and construction improvements of the city water system.

TWDB offers loan and grant assistance for planning, acquisition, design and construction of water-related infrastructure and other water quality improvements. The organization has made more than 5,580 financial commitments totaling $31.9 billion since its creation in 1957. In the resolution it states the city has determined there is “an urgent need for the construction of improvements to the City’s wastewater system.”

The improvements proposed will be at the city water treatment plant to upgrade the chemical storage area and clearwell, installation of a backwash pond liner, other necessary improvements, repairs and upgrades to the raw water intake structure and valves and the replacement of various water distribution lines. The city approved an application authorizing financial assistance from the TWDB and expressed their interest in reimbursing the costs of the water system project.
