Correction

Wed, 01/23/2019 - 5:00 am

In the Jan. 16 edition of the Breckenridge American, we stated in the headline of our story regarding an elderly assault that a Stephens County Court was reviewing the case. We also wrote in the opening sentence “The Magistrate Court has arrested a Fort Worth man.” Both of these statements were inaccurate, as the court does not review the case. The Justice of the Peace Court sets a bond at a magistrate hearing. And courts do not make arrests, but law enforcement does. In this case, it was the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office that made the arrest and led the investigation. Both have been corrected in the story online and we will run a correction in next week’s paper. The Breckenridge American would like to profusely apologize for the errors.
