County court implements burn ban, discusses grants, other county financial business at regular meeting

The Stephens County County Commissioners met Monday, Feb. 25 for their regular meeting and implemented a burn ban, as well as discussed several grants the county is eligible for as they gear up to figure the costs of the potential capital trial coming to the area.

Burn ban

The court decided to put on a burn ban that will last until it is discussed again at their March 11 meeting. The decision came after Breckenridge Fire Chief Calvin Chaney presented information to the commissioners, which detailed the weather forecast and what the Texas Forestry Service has regarding the risk of fire. At this time, several counties west of Stephens have burn bans in place.
