Breckenridge ISD celebrated Lynn Richardson for her innovative strategy to the StudySync program, which has given students the opportunity to learn while having fun.

Ever since she can remember she has wanted to teach. With two parents as educators, Richardson can recall a passion for teaching, even at a young age.

Richardson was honored by Breckenridge ISD at the Jan. 20 board meeting for staff appreciation.

Richardson teaches eighth-grade English-Language Arts (ELA) at Breckenridge Junior High School and has been teaching for 13 years. She also has experience in teaching fifth, sixth and seventh grade ELA.

StudySync is used as the ELA core curriculum at Breckenridge Junior High. Richardson adjusted the program and combined StudySync routines with the station-rotation method.

In her first year of teaching eighth grade, her passion has assisted in transforming the program into a useful tool that helps students learn.

“I love the literature aspect, teaching the arts, just being with kids and knowing sometimes you may be the only positive influence that they may get in that day,” Richardson said.

Richardson covers one text for a week, focusing on a diverse genre. In a 45 minute class period, there are 30 minutes per station and the program consists of four consistent stations.

The first station, with the aid of a Google Chromebook, allows students to listen to text and follow along with the material.

The next station places students into groups to complete comprehension questions online.

When the students complete the second station, they move on to the skill lesson, which goes along with the text and allows students the opportunity to fully grasp the learned material.
