DAR leads Constitution week celebrations

Wed, 09/25/2019 - 2:00 pm

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has been busy this week helping BISD students celebrate Constitution week. Earlier in the week the DAR ladies, Lisa Echols, and Mary Thompson helped at Breckenridge High School with the flag ceremony led by the FFA members from the Ag Department. Echols explained the proper protocol for the American flag coming down the aisle, which requires students and faculty to stand to honor the American flag. Last year, the students didn't know they were supposed to stand when the American flag entered the main auditorium and was taken down the aisle.

On Thursday, the DAR ladies, which included Echols, Thompson and Barbara Trammell, helped with the fifth-grade class present a Reader's Theatre play titled, "Unite or Die." It depicted the early states initially attempting to organize into the United States of America at a convention held at Annapolis, Maryland, with only five states attending, which included delegates from Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, New Jersey and New York.
