“We will fight for the ideals and sacred things of the City both alone and with many.”

As the Athenian Oath goes, so does interim city manager, Scott Dixon. The interim city manager led the recent city commissioners meeting on Tuesday, October 6, and provided great detail on the upcoming innovation of the city.

Along with improvements to the City of Breckenridge’s swimming pool, Dixon also informed city commissioners about innovative moves with bills paying kiosk and a tower lease to modernize broad band service.

“There are some repairs below the waterline for the swimming pool,” Dixon said. “The repairs will cut out the plaster portion that are cracked and replaster that section. The process will take about two weeks. The payment kiosk is about $39,000 with installment and will make it so that people have 24 hours access to pay their bills and court fines.

The move by Dixon and other interim city managers is to make life easier for citizens and assist in a movement into a technological world. Dixon also provided an encouragement for the city’s budget deficiencies.

“I see slumped shoulders from time to time from the public and staff,” Dixon said. “They feel like issues are insurmountable, but my experience is that there is nothing Breckenridge is facing that is unique. The financial difficulties are pretty heavy, a high tax rate, but it’s not uniques, and we’re not the only city. It’s not the boat we want to be in, but we want to try and fix that.”

The city of Breckenridge also approved a request for an amended facility use agreement. The agreement is for the New Destination Church to begin to use the Senior Center building vacated after the Breckenridge Senior Center was closed.

The Breckenridge City Commissioner will continue to meet on the first Tuesday of each month.
