The newly appointed interim city manager, Scott Dixon, was the guest speaker during the recent Tuesday, October 13, Rotary Club of Breckenridge meeting.

Dixon provided the club with an update of the steps taken to improve the city while in the position as interim city manager.

“My role as an interim is to come in and evaluate the city,” Scott Dixon, the interim city manager said. “I’ll look at how business is being done, and see what improvements can be made. I will also help the city locate a permanent city manager.”

Dixon is tasked with providing a long term plan for the community to improve the community and its residents for the future.

“How do we fix the revenue gaps,” Dixon asked. “We know one of the ways is tourism. One way is to increase the property tax value. We need to get rid of the dilapidated homes that are pulling down the value. Encourage redevel opment of existing homes and get the streets within the city fixed. The city has to do its part in being a good steward, and then we can ask citizens to be good stewards.”

Dixon also provided the club with some issues that are affecting the city of Breckenridge.

“We have to figure out where are the issues,” Dixon said. “As of right now, I am seeing one of the issues is paying city workers. We have a street tax and some of that money can be used to pay workers more.

The money that frees up in the general fund can be used to give others raises in public works or utilities.”

Dixon also discussed raising the leadership bar within the city.

“I want to teach them the patterns of good governance,” Dixon said. “This pattern must be taught and learned and has a lot to do with how I was taught in Westlake.”

The Rotary Club of Breckenridge will continue to meet every Tuesday at 11:30 inside L & L Country Cooking.
