Breckenridge FFA’s Senior Skills team represented their community proudly at the Area IV Leadership Development Events contest this week, finishing fifth overall in a competitive field of 12 schools.
The event was held Monday, Nov. 24, in Jacksboro, where team members Rachel Burchett, Rihana Fuller, and Dustie Lowrey competed in the Senior Skills category. This contest is designed to test participants’ ability to apply practical agricultural knowledge in simulated real-world scenarios, requiring both technical skill and teamwork.
Breckenridge entered the competition prepared and confident, having spent weeks practicing and refining their approach. Their fifth-place finish placed them ahead of several larger schools in the area, underscoring the strength of the program and the dedication of its members.
The Area IV contest is one of the most competitive in the state, drawing teams from across North Texas. Jacksboro and Peaster claimed the top two spots and advanced to the state competition, while Jim Ned and Wylie rounded out the top four. Breckenridge’s placement just behind these programs highlights the chapter’s ability to compete at a high level.
While the team did not advance to state, their performance reflects the broader mission of Breckenridge FFA: to provide students with opportunities to grow as leaders, sharpen their agricultural knowledge and represent their community with pride. Participation in contests like these also helps prepare students for future academic and career opportunities in agriculture and beyond.
The Senior Skills team’s showing capped off a strong season of leadership development events for Breckenridge FFA, reinforcing the chapter’s reputation for hard work and resilience.
