The Breckenridge High School FFA members have just competed in the Area 4 FFA Judging contests. Faculty advisors are Austin Hanna and Brooke Diaz.
This past week the FFA members competed in the Area 4 CDE’s. These events are based around different aspects of the agriculture industry. All the students that participated have been studying, practicing and competing the last few months at a chance to go on to the state level competition. Every student who competed has steadily improved throughout the judging season and should be commended for their hard work during the competition as in all other areas students compete. They are often on athletic teams and possibly academic teams and have to be prepared in those areas as well.
The teams that competed were: Wildlife, Vet Tech, Horse, Nursery Landscape, Livestock Judging, Range Judging and Wool Judging.
The BHS FFA Team members and event include:
•Wildlife Judging - Jackson Woodward, Ethan Flournoy, Braxton Wade & Jesse Van Meter
•Vet Tech - Sydney Garland, Sadie bailey, Denicia Rangel & Sophia Aguillan
• Horse Judging - Kason Knight, Jett Echols, Addison Street & Rylan Sims
•Nursery Landscape - Laney Thibodeaux
•Livestock Judging - Abbi Otts, Brittney Melton & Rebecca Melton
•Range Judging - Diana Mendoza, Jackson Woodward & Addison Duncan
•Wool Judging - Scarlett Brashear, Shalyn Owens & Callie Shirley
Most notably, the FFA had three teams finish in the top ten. However, only the top five move on to state competition.
• The Horse Judging team finished in fifth place and will move on to compete at the state level. Kason Knight placed first overall competitors in the Area competition and Jett Echols placed 14th overall who competed.
•Wool Judging Team finished 6th as a team. They missed by one place moving forward.
•Range Judging finished 10th as a team.
All the students who competed should be commended for their hard work as they juggle other areas of competition this spring semester.
