Filing period for city commission election to end Feb. 15
Filing for city positions in Breckenridge began Wednesday, Jan. 16 and will continue until 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, according to a release from the city. Two positions are up for re-election this year, which are Place 3 and 4 for the city commission. The election will be held on Saturday, May 4.
All eligible voters in Breckenridge may vote for all positions, according to the release. Anyone who qualifies to run may file in the City Secretary’s office for any race. In order to qualify, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable
- Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be: totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote
- Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities
- Have resided continuously in the State for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the date of the filing deadline
- Be a registered voter in the territory from which the office is elected as of the date of the filing deadline from a candidate’s place on the ballot
Currently, David Wimberley serves at Place 3 and Tom Cyprian serves at Place 4. Wimberley has served since being elected in 2013 and Cyprian has served since 2014, while serving as the Mayor Pro Tem since 2016, according to the city’s website.
