Wed, 08/17/2022 - 12:00 am

Breckenridge City Commissioner Greg Akers has resigned, according to an email sent last Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Akers submitted a resignation letter following a disagreement during the commission’s Tuesday, Aug. 9 meeting. During this meeting, the city considered candidates for the vacant city manager position.

“Thank you for the opportunity to serve the community of Breckenridge. I must at this time officially resign my role as commissioner. I believe the best way for me to serve our community, is do it as a (private) citizen (...),” Akers’ resignation letter said. “I wish the best for the city, its commission, and staff.”

He states in his letter that his resignation was effective Tuesday, Aug. 9.

Akers was a first-term commissioner, who was elected to office after the cancellation of the May 7 election during the Tuesday, March 1 meeting.

The city did not have an action item to appoint a replacement for the Place 1 position on their agenda for a special meeting, set for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Due to Monday press deadlines, this story will be updated online at www.breckenridgeamerican. com, following the city’s Tuesday meeting.
