A wreck Saturday on Hwy. 67 in Young County that caused multiple injuries has now been reported to have claimed the life of a 9-year-old male passenger.

Nine individuals, including four children and two teens, were transported to various hospitals across the state following a wreck involving three vehicles around 3:17 p.m. Saturday, March 14 on Hwy. 67 north of the Young and Stephens counties line.

A 9-year-old child that was previously reported to have been transported to Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth with serious injuries was pronounced dead Tuesday, March 17 at the hospital, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Claudio Alejandro Garza, 51, of San Antonio, was traveling south in a 2025 BMW 230 Series on Hwy. 67 while a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Gustavo Adolfo Alvarez, 39, of Midland, was following behind.

At the same time, Jackson Henry Harle, 26 of Caddo, was traveling north on Hwy. 67 in a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, according to a preliminary investigation from DPS.

Garza attempted to pass a truck-tractor, semi-trailer on the left but saw the Tahoe, driven by Harle, approaching. The BMW veered into the northbound shoulder to avoid a collision and Harle took evasive action to avoid striking the BMW and lost control of the vehicle.

The Tahoe entered into a side skid in the southbound lane and struck the Silverado driven by Alvarez.

Harle, along with three child passengers who were 4 years old, 2 years old and 8 months old, were transported to Graham Regional Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. The 9-year-old passenger was also a passenger in this vehicle.

Another passenger, Stella Lynn Hungate, 30, of Caddo, was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth with suspected serious injuries.

Garza and his passenger, Maria Moreno Garza, 77, were not injured in the wreck. Alvarez and two passengers ages 17 and 14 years old, were transported to GRMC with suspected minor injuries.

In all three vehicles, all drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts when the wreck occurred.

The investigation is under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

Assisting with the wreck were Stephens County Sheriff’s Office, Sacred Cross EMS, Breckenridge Police Department, Breckenridge Fire Department, Young County Sheriff’s Office, Young County EMS, Graham Fire Department and Young County VFDs.
