We all enjoy a good laugh. I really like the auto insurance commercials. Lizards that talk, cars falling through rooftops, and my all-time favorite the octopus that ate San Francisco.
So all-in-all, if you have a claim you’re in’’ good hands’’ for all the insurance agents that have seen a thing or two, here is a true story, from my loose, but colorful memory.
A sleek black submarine sliding into the Pearl Harbor submarine base. Most of the crew was topside waiting to tie -up. The boat and the waving begins, and the pier was loaded to welcome home the brave men.
Along with a full dress navy band, that included captains, admirals, wives, kids, girlfriend, and the skipper’s wife. She parked her new Mercedes-Benz at the end of the dock.
Unknown to the happy crowd, our engines had died about 3 miles out, and we were making a run for the dock on the batteries. When the batteries died, there is no way to slow the ship down as it is another day in beautiful Honolulu.
With 300ft of lead and steel headed straight for the marching band and anxious wives, suddenly a silence gripped the crowd.
NO...STOP...SLOWDOWN ...fear gripped the crowd ... RUN FOR YOUR LIVES.
The boat blasted the pier at 9 knots (10 mph), and thankfully there was only one casualty.
The captain’s Mercedes-Benz. The captain’s wife, seeing the calamity grabbed her purse and fled to safety.
Meanwhile, the sub crashed her car and pushed it into the drink. The next day, Mr. and Mrs. Captain greeted their insurance rep with the sad news.
Our Mercedes-Benz was run over by a submarine, and as a good neighbor, State Farm was there.
