The Breckenridge Police Department has arrested one and identified the identity of a second individual in connection with the burglary of Buckaroos Burgers, where approximately $4,000 was stolen.

On Sunday, August 2, an officer was dispatched to Buckaroo Burgers to assist with the burglary of the restaurant. BPD used video footage, a review of an ex-employee list, as well as talking with the owner of the business and to other officers to identify a person of interest, according to the probable cause affidavit.

“They were masked up in the footage,” Bacel Cantrell, Breckenridge Police Chief said. “When we see something, we can build an idea off a suspect’s modus operandi (MO). We’ve recovered one safe and $1,100 cash from one suspect. The two individuals went through the window of the drive-thru.”

Police identified Braxton Rhuel Johnson and another suspect as the two individuals, who were suspected of burglarizing the Buckaroos Burger restaurant.

The second suspect, an ex-employee of the restaurant, was identified by his knowledge of the basic layout of the building and fits the description in the surveillance video, obtained from Buckaroo Burgers. According to the probable cause affidavit, the suspect is the main one of the two suspects who entered the office and physically removed the cash and safe.

A tip from the suspect’s uncle led BPD to the Meadow Green Apartments, where the two subjects live and were given consent by the a resident inside the apartment to search for any stolen items.

“While searching the room that Johnson was sleeping in, a white pair of sweatpants fitting the description of the pants worn by one of the suspects in the surveillance video, as well as a white pair of slide style shoes were found. Also recovered as evidence were several clear sandwich style bags with a knot tied in the top that matched the description of the baggies that had coins in them, which were identified as items stolen from the restaurant, according to the probable cause affidavit. The collected baggies

The collected baggies from the apartment and the sample baggies found in the Buckaroo Burgers were an exact match.

Johnson was charged with burglary of a building, a state jail felony, where he entered a building without the effective consent of the owner and attempted to commit theft of property, namely money, a safe, and a small safe containing $4,000.

The second suspect has yet to be arrested and is still at-large.
